Sown on the 15th June, these Zinnia had germinated by the 20th, and were pricked out on the 22nd. Now that is fast. Three packets of Amaranthus germinated within five days, they still have a little way to go before they are pricked out, and will be grown on as young plants before planting, as I find slugs love them !

With the greenhouse temperature coming in around 27 degrees conditions for seed germination are rapid to say the least.
Today, countless unopened packets were still sitting in my seed tin, a fast decision was required. Rather than grow them in the greenhouse, I decided to empty the contents into the palm of my hand and broadcast them directly through the garden.
Hopefully competition from other plants will allow at least some to pass the germination stage. If only a few reach flowering stage I will be delighted.
It’s not all about being fast though. Everyday I take a very long stroll along my very short double border. There is already so much to see, and now with my recently sown seeds there will hopefully be even more over the coming months.

Remember it is not too late to sow hardy annuals for your garden, why not give it a go in the next week or two ?

Oh, I do that with unused seed to. However, some of the seed is sometimes for things I do not want in the garden. I figure that I do not want grows, I will dig it up and move it.

This year I decided, to empty all my unused seeds, and some that go back years that I am unlikely to ever grow on initially in the greenhouse. I will just have to see germinates in random places !
