159My double border is particularly short, coming in at just under six metres. Even so, it is packed full of beautiful trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals – many of which I have grown from seed. Best of all the majority of plants are in containers so I literally move my border around as and when I see fit.

I take a very slow immersive walk along it on daily basis, checking its summer progress. There are so many flower buds and variations of foliage to focus on. Serenity, peace, calm and childlike joy, encapsulated together. Over summer the colour will intensify from its present pale pink to vibrant orange and reds thanks to the Dahlias and Tithonia I have grown from seed.

100I spend the vast majority of my working day wading waist height through customers borders removing ground elder and dead heading. When I get home I prefer just to sit amongst the plants in my garden – with this in mind a low slung chair has been carefully positioned. My love for tall plants knows no bounds, sitting below a flowering canopy enables me to watch the fledglings take flight, and observe the bats at night.

074I am growing as much food as possible. My mission is to put something homegrown on my plate everyday. We are loving the coriander, basil and radish salads. Today I ate fresh strawberries for breakfast – delicious.076

My greenhouse is full of cucumbers, tomatoes, aubergines and peppers. The courgettes are on the benches in grow bags to allow the fruit to trail out of the now permanently open windows, and they can ripen in the sunshine.

It goes without saying, I truly love spending time in my garden. In fact I would go as far to say it is perfect (well for this year at least) Some might say it looks slightly wild – I say naturalistic. Most importantly it makes me incredibly content.

075This year my favourite part of the garden is my very small veg patch, which is around 6 m2. Why ? Because my daily crop will have travelled no more than 15 metres into my kitchen, and not be wrapped in plastic. “Think on, and grow your own ” is fast becoming my new mantra.
