My double border is particularly short, coming in at just under six metres. Even so, it is packed full of beautiful trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals – many of which I have grown from seed. Best of all the majority of plants are in containers so I literally move my border around as and when I see fit.
I spend the vast majority of my working day wading waist height through customers borders removing ground elder and dead heading. When I get home I prefer just to sit amongst the plants in my garden – with this in mind a low slung chair has been carefully positioned. My love for tall plants knows no bounds, sitting below a flowering canopy enables me to watch the fledglings take flight, and observe the bats at night.
I am growing as much food as possible. My mission is to put something homegrown on my plate everyday. We are loving the coriander, basil and radish salads. Today I ate fresh strawberries for breakfast – delicious.
It goes without saying, I truly love spending time in my garden. In fact I would go as far to say it is perfect (well for this year at least) Some might say it looks slightly wild – I say naturalistic. Most importantly it makes me incredibly content.
This year my favourite part of the garden is my very small veg patch, which is around 6 m2. Why ? Because my daily crop will have travelled no more than 15 metres into my kitchen, and not be wrapped in plastic. “Think on, and grow your own ” is fast becoming my new mantra.
