On arriving at Judy and Martin’s on Saturday , I was instantaneously invited into their garden . Nothing new there then.
However on this occasion there really was something new . To be precise a wooden carving of Kuan Yin – the goddess of compassion .
For many years, her previous home had been under the woodland canopy in Martin and Judy’s Ironbridge garden . And here she was , residing in her new beautiful weatherproof cedar clad home . She looked magnificent and strong , as she cast her gaze over the garden . This chance photograph, of the Rosa Queen of Sweden and Kuan Yin felt entirely serendipitous.

We spent a good long while , observing this exquisite restoration . Because Kuan Yin, had resided permanently outside for many years, this really had caused a great deal of unrepairable damage . Dylan Hartley (The restorer) stabilised all the damage , wherever possible and then crafted this new timber central core , which we all thought resembled a modern interpretation of the Giants Causeway in County Antrim in Northern Ireland. Kuan Yin looks magnificent again . Thankyou Dylan .
It is about a month since I made – An autumnal visit to Judy and Martins garden.. Seed heads are now forming and the architectural structure of the chosen planting is taking on greater significance. These images are from Saturday 2 nd November 2024.

I hope you have enjoyed today’s gardening update , I wonder what’s new in your garden this late autumn ?

Always nice to see your photos of this garden but I think the restored statue is of Kwan Yin and the rose, if the colour is it appears in the photo, is not Rosa Queen of Sweden, which is an apricot colour, fading to a pale shade as it ages.

Thanks Rowana, for the spelling error. I live very close to David Austin Roses, and I’m off to buy some roses shortly. I will ask them to identify, what I thought was the Queen of Sweden .
Kindest regards
Sally
