My summer flower combinations have ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous. After bringing the Tithonia to my kitchen windowsill to join some of my favourite cut flowers from my garden I realised it was the exact colour of my pan scrub, it truly made me laugh out loud. I made a card for a friend describing it as a new art form “The utensilists “
On a more sublime level … I could not believe how good my french beans and Gladioli Black Beauty looked together.
In Judy’s garden on Wednesday Veronicastrum, Acanthus, and the seed heads of Valerian looked quite exquisite.
I wish this sanguisorba was running through my garden, instead, it is in Julia’s. I fully intend to grow it in every garden I look after. I just need to run this idea past my customers first though. The back drop here is Crocosmia, however, I think it would look stunning in any colour combination
What’s not to love about it? A long-lasting deep maroon flower, and due to the transparency of its stem structure I think it would work really well at the front, back and middle of any sunny border.
This summer I intend to carry on finding combinations of flowers to fill my blog, my garden, my kitchen windowsill and greenhouse with light, hope and joy.

You see, THIS is why I just GROW horticultural commodities rather than actually USE them! I never could have been a floral designer!
